Greenbelt Foundation

Following up on the conclusions of the Greenbelt Foundation’s 2019 “State of Large Parks in Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe” report, the Greenbelt Foundation retained Re:Public to undertake a needs and opportunity analysis on large parks in the Greater Golden Horseshoe with the goal of answering three primary questions:

  1.  Where are the areas of the Greater Golden Horseshoe in greatest need of new, large parks?

  1. What is the existing planning framework doing to address gaps in large park provision, and whether they align with the areas in greatest need?

  1. How can municipalities finance new park creation, particularly in comparison to other jurisdictions?

The results of this research will inform the future of long-term planning for large parks in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (i.e., to identify future planning and financing approaches to large parks planning) and to assist the Greenbelt Foundation in future grant making.
